VISIT TO NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR THE EMPOWERMENT OF PERSONS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES (NIEPID), BONHOOGHLY, B.T ROAD, KOLKATA

The students of Kamala Devi Sohanraj Singhvi Jain College of Education got an opportunity for an educational field visit to NIEPID, Bonhoogly accompanied by their mentors on 11th July, 2025. This visit is a part of their curriculum in B.Ed, Semester 4 from Course: Creating an Inclusive School. Visiting an institute dealing students with special needs is worth to foster empathy and inclusive perspectives towards individuals with special needs. The visit provided valuable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of the specially – abled ones highlighting the tailored education and support provided by the institute. The officer- in – charge gave a short lecture on the objectives of the institute. The institute undertake and sponsor the training of the professionals including educators, rehabilitation specialists, speech therapists, employment officers, psychologists, vocational counsellors, and other personnels for the promotion of education, therapy, training and rehabilitation of the individuals with special needs. The institute also offers Individualized Education Programme (IEP) to meet the specific needs of each student. It was an enriching experience for all of us and these visits can facilitate the exchange of ideas and best practices between special education professionals and educators in mainstream settings. The visit left an indelible mark in our hearts, reminding us about the importance of embracing diversity, where everyone is valued and supported.
